You wouldn’t train speed or strength without measuring it. Why treat mental performance any differently?
Our assessments give coaches and athletes a clear roadmap. By identifying key mental strengths and development areas, athletes receive focused, actionable insights that guide their mental training. We know that mental skill development doesn’t have to be confusing—it becomes clear, personalized, and purposeful with the right starting point.

With deep expertise in high-performance sport environments, we ensure our recommendations are not just data-driven—but practical, relevant, and ready to apply.
OUR STORY
Mental Metrics Lab began with a shared passion for unlocking the psychological side of performance. As consultants we know we can do a better job when the work is targeted to support strengths and reduce gaps. Our tools do that.
The story started in 2009 at the University of Lethbridge. Joshua Hoetmer joined Dr. Sharleen Hoar in her work with the Emotion and Sport Performance Lab. This Lab was internationally recognized for the study of emotions, stress, anxiety, and coping in sport. This research informed their practice of designing and implementing mental skills training programs.
Joshua and Sharleen, took their practices away from the University of Lethbridge in different directions. Sharleen leads at the highest levels of Canadian sport as the Mental Performance Lead at Canadian Sport Institute Pacific and Sport Scientist Canada. In these roles she continues to innovate cutting edge service delivery for national and Olympic/Paralympic level athletes. Josh designs and implements cutting edge mental training services with provincial and national groups. Josh’s work is recognized in his associations with the Western Hockey League and professional hockey players.
As a team, Sharleen and Joshua have reunited—this time with a clear, bold vision: to bring precision, clarity, and actionable insight to mental skills training through informed assessment.
